What is XBRL?

eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) is an internationally recognised language used in computers to communicate business and financial data digitally. ACRA believes that the implementation of corporate financial reporting using XBRL format would improve the financial reporting and analysis process and facilitate the generation and flow of value-adding information to a wide range of stakeholders.

Who need to file XBRL?

All Singapore incorporated companies (except exempt private companies) are required to file their full set of financial statements in XBRL format (Full XBRL) according to a minimum requirement list within the ACRA Taxonomy.

The following companies are exempted from filing Full XBRL and will file their financial statement highlights in XBRL format (Partial XBRL) and finanical statement in PDF format:

  1. Specific companies regulated by MAS, for example commercial banks, merchant banks, insurance companies and finance companies

  2. Companies which are allowed to used accounting standards other than SFRS, SFRS for Small Entities and IFRS.

Insolvent exempt private companies must either:

  • file Full XBRL; or

  • file Partial XBRL and financial statements in PDF format.

Companies limited by guarantee, foreign companies or local branches of foreign companies will file their financial statements in PDF format.
